Spring? Updates!

What happened to our lovely springtime weather?!  Snow?!

Thank you to those of you who volunteered to help with random needs this past week!  The deer fence is now properly restored to it's original beauty.  Sorry Bambi, you're going to need to find another fast food garden! And thank you to those who hacked down bamboo to use as tomato and bean stakes!

Many of your have expressed great ideas on how to better build community within the ministry.  We're hearing you loud and clear!  Please make plans to join Dana and I for a brainstorming {and dessert munchin'} session  There are some incredible ideas, so we need some individuals to step up and make the ideas a realty!

Mark your calendars!

and we have... sprouting!

Before we could even start praying for someone to help us grow seeds, the Lord provided someone.  How cool is that?!

Our new garden friend, Susan, offered to start the Garden Ministry's broccoli and cabbage seeds using her personal seed starting set-up.  She's caring for them daily with tlc - thank you so much Susan!

Susan sent us a photo update...

Look at those babies growing!  Before we know it, we'll be planting them in their very own raised plots.

FaceBook Fun!

The Westover Community Garden now has it's own FaceBook page!  It sure felt like spring this weekend, and as much as we would have loved to be planting instead we were planning!

We are prepping  for the 2013 gardening season in a big way.  One of our goals is to  have better communication with the volunteers.  Thus, this blog and the new FaceBook page {two-way communication at it's finest!}

Please don't ever be shy.  We always want to hear from you; questions, concerns, feedback - just drop us a line or pick up the phone!

Spread the word about the Westover Community Garden!

FaithWorks at The Garden

Last Saturday, over 30 people served at the Garden during FaithWorks!  The Lord provided a perfectly sunny {and warm} November day AND plenty of hands to get the job done.  It was a great work day, with projects for all ages.

Main goals for the day:
1. Build 3 additional garden beds
2. Prep all 12 beds: till, add soil, cover with newspaper, and the with mulch
3. Lay cardboard throughout entire garden area to minimize weeds
4. Spread mulch throughout entire garden and walkways
5. Have fun!
{huge piles of mulch and soil}
{say good bye to the bermuda grass ground covering}
{lots of cardboard, big garden!}

{cardboard garden}
{prepping beds for 2013}
{who says getting dirty isn't fun?!}

{projects for all ages}
Of course, we had just enough cardboard and the perfect amount of mulch...
{final product, garden ready for the winter}

And after a few hours the piles were gone, the concrete swept and all trash removed. The job complete.  All goals were met, and if fun was measured in dirtiness well then... we had some major fun!

Thank you to all who served!  Thank you to Steve Miller for coordinating FaithWorks! And, as always thank you to the God who provides all we need.
